The Royal Canadian Legion
The Royal Canadian Legion is a non-profit organization committed to supporting Canadian veterans, their families, and communities. Founded in 1925 through the unification of earlier veterans’ groups, the Legion advocates for the care and well-being of those who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and their dependents. With approximately 1,400 branches across Canada and a few internationally, it delivers vital services such as financial aid, housing assistance, and mental health support. Renowned for its dedication to remembrance, the Legion organizes the annual Poppy Campaign—rooted in efforts dating back to 1921—and Remembrance Day ceremonies to honor Canada’s fallen and veterans. Beyond this, it strengthens local communities through fundraising, youth programs like cadet support and scholarships, and volunteer efforts. Membership is open to all Canadians who align with the Legion’s mission, ensuring sustained support for veterans and their families.
